Shooting kitesurfing is challenging: sun, sea, sand and a kiteboarder approaching at speed. It is essential to get up close and personal to capture the action, which happens very fast.

The 10 fps Canon EOS 1D Mk III with a 16-35mm f2.8 L in a Eva Marine bag is great for pro riders, who have to be good enough to jump a couple of metres away! For other riders the longer 24-70 f2.8L increases the subject distance and safety margin. A 300mm super telephoto is great for shore based long shots and can be doubled up to 600mm as needed.

It takes a special rider to perform great tricks repeatedly and look straight down the lens to get the perfect shot.
