The local football stadium is the home of Egyptian premiere leaque club El Gouna FC. It also hosts the occasional “friendly” match with a difference such as Life After Football and other visiting overseas teams and, in 2010, an amazing match between the Egyptian Ladies National Squad v Berlin's BSC Hertha ladies FC Luebars. The stadium isn't the largest in the world so the action is super close and the view uncluttered, at a few meters from the pitch side an EF 300mm f/2.8L attached to an EOS 1D MkIII makes a great combo for the sports action. A 7D with a 70-200mm f2.8L takes care of the more close up shots and solid reliable 20D's make great goal cams controlled with Pocket Wizards from the 1D. Shooting soccer at this level is engrossing. It’s said that, “If you’ve seen the shot you’ve missed it!”. Watching 90 minutes of action through a viewfinder to get the best shots is both exciting and demanding. |
