Red Sea Monkeys consists of Dave & Jenny Cooper. Originally from England we now live in El Gouna on the Egyptian Red Sea Coast approximately 40 minutes from Hurghada. Although we still have a UK base, on the Isle of Portland off the Dorset coast, we escaped the rat race of the IT and Pharmaceutical industries in 2006 to become our own bosses in the amazing world of imaging. We started with stills photography but ventured into video in 2009 as a range of DSLR cameras were launched which were capable of capturing superb quality HD video.

Equipment wise, whether it is high resolution stills or stunning quality full HD video we really like Canon imaging equipment. For photo shoots we use Canon Pro DSLR bodies with Canon L series lenses to achieve outstanding results. When it comes to video we don't cut corners either with the latest Canon XF300 HD Camcorder and the renowned Canon EOS 5D MkII or 7D which, for example, when fitted with the Canon EF 85mm f/1.2 allows us to capture video with that equisite cinematic shallow depth of field effect.

For water sports action we can safely put two DSLR's on or under the water using Ewa-Marine flexible housings and we also use the GoPro Hero waterproof HD video camera. Manfrotto come up with the goods for supporting things whilst ThinkTank and Kata take care of carrying the gear around.

If we need to add extra light to a photo shoot we use Canon 580EX II or 430EX strobes and we have a couple of old Nikon strobes (SB-26 and SB-80DX) which work really well as optical slaves. For off camera flash work we use PocketWizard Plus II transceivers to sort out the triggering.

For processing we use a 21" iMac, or 17" MacBook Pro if we're on the move, with Final Cut Studio, Aperture, Adobe Lightroom and Photoshop. Backups are taken care of by Western Digital and LaCie external firewire 800 drives consisting of an ever growing number of terabytes.

This site is best viewed with a screen resolution of 1280 x 800 or higher. The galleries use Lightbox whilst videos are shown in Flash format. The images and blog on this site show examples of our work from weddings to 360 degree images, from follow focus to timelapse.
